We editors love discovering something new, but we don’t pass up the chance to return to an old favorite. My colleagues regularly concoct flimsy pretexts to revisit past recommendations, and to be fair, I’ve concocted a few of my own. In an effort to maintain a modicum of control over our travel budget, we usually prioritize going back to places that have experienced a major change or received complaints. Perhaps it’s simply been too long since our last editorial evaluation. And sometimes, we go just because we can. Whatever the reasons for our revisits, the hotels below had no trouble earning fresh endorsements.
Miami Beach, Florida
With its sumptuous art deco furnishings and outsize artworks, Faena Hotel embodies all the flash and flamboyance that is Miami Beach. The first time we reviewed the property, in 2015, we were left “breathless by the extent of Faena’s innovation.” So it’s telling that upon our return, almost a decade later, we found it as invigorating as ever. Room interiors are plush and seductive, and their colors mirror the turquoise waters and crimson umbrellas at the palm-lined pool. With a provocative cabaret club, a velvet-roped lounge, the open-fire cooking of Francis Mallmann and the 22,000-square-foot spa — with one of the largest hammams on the East Coast — Faena continues to be an urban resort defined by playful indulgence.
