We love intimate bolt-holes — “hideaway” is in our name, after all — but we also have a soft spot for larger hotels and resorts that offer a panoply of amenities. Just because a hotel has more than 50 rooms doesn’t mean it can’t deliver a high level of personal service. All the properties below do just that. Any of them would be the crown jewel of an itinerary, or they could serve as the base of a vacation in and of themselves.
1. Blackberry Farm
Walland, Tennessee
Set on 4,200 acres near Smoky Mountains National Park, this bucolic 68-room hotel is known for having “the best food.” One former guest “cannot say enough about the trout fishing” but his companions “rave about the spa and salon.” Still another gushes that they simply love “everything.”
