In the spring and fall, coastal New England has less-predictable weather but far fewer tourists. We visited last autumn and were fortunate to have warm, sunny and uncrowded days exploring the remarkable historic and natural attractions.

We paid incognito visits to several hotels and resorts, and not all of them made the cut. This video takes you inside the ones that did: Wequassett Resort and Golf Club on Cape Cod; Harbor View Hotel on Martha's Vineyard; and The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection, in Newport, Rhode Island. Connecting these properties made for an unforgettable road trip.
