Travel Advisors’ Latest Explorations

Beachfront Three-Bedroom Private Pool Villa, Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel - Eric Rubens

I’ve worked with our Travel Office advisors on countless undercover trips of my own, because it’s quite possible that they’ve been to a destination more recently than I. We regularly send them out to stay in and inspect hotels, and they always come back with valuable information about new and already recommended properties. Plus, they meet contacts who can provide insider experiences in the region. The editorial team can always count on our advisors to arrange captivating excursions with top guides (and often to arrange special Harper-member hotel perks). We chatted with a few advisors who recently returned from trips to Italy, France, Argentina, Switzerland, England, the Caribbean and Hawaii to hear what they learned and what insights they can share with you.

Italy

Il Sereno Hotel, Lake Como - Cindy Nelson

I am a senior travel advisor specializing in Europe. Not long ago I had the opportunity to tour Milan and Lake Como. In the former, I was impressed by the service at the Four Seasons Milano — the staff worked hard to get me an early check-in (I’ll make sure they work hard for you, too). I also had the chance to have a look at the Park Hyatt Milan and the Excelsior Hotel Gallia, a Luxury Collection Hotel. My trip out to Lake Como included stays at the exquisite Passalacqua hotel and Il Sereno Hotel, a newer build on the other side of the lake, and I’d be happy to discuss the advantages of the different locations. I can book private boat tours for members, of course, and it’s great fun when I add in an excursion to a villa where a scene from “Star Wars” was filmed. For large groups, I can recommend an exclusive villa with private pools and a waterfall that runs through it. — Cindy Nelson, 30-plus years’ experience

Caribbean

Beachfront Two-Bedroom Suite With King, Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla - Edgardo Contreras

The first time I traveled to the Caribbean was in the ’80s, and I continue to love it to this day — especially Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel in Anguilla. This paradisiacal hotel remains a timeless classic that feels like a world away. I can help arrange a boat excursion to an uninhabited island near the property, and I have insider restaurant recommendations to ensure that you experience the very best of the best during your vacation. On my most recent trip to the Caribbean, I also visited La Samanna, A Belmond Hotel on St. Martin. I’d be happy to discuss which of these sister hotels is more suitable for guests with mobility limitations, for example, or which is better for groups traveling with children. Whether you are interested in wining, dining and socializing or quiet evenings in, I have the expertise to determine which Caribbean resort and even which room category is the best fit for you. — Rosa Miranovic, 20-plus years’ experience
