Scenes From Peru: Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu

The Inca had a genius for siting massive man-made constructions amid landscapes of dramatic scenic splendor. Photos, unless taken from a great distance away, can usually catch only a portion of any given Inca ruin. Video is much better at capturing the sweeping grandeur of these grandly sculptural remains.

This set of clips depicts several of the most monumental Incan ruins in the Sacred Valley, followed by a short video diary of our time aboard Belmond’s wonderful Hiram Bingham train, the most luxurious way to reach Machu Picchu.

And despite its fame and iconic status, Machu Picchu still manages to exceed expectations. I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t feel awestruck when confronted with the panorama of these ruins, which occupy perhaps the most improbably spectacular setting in the world.
