A two-night stay is sufficient to see the principal sites of Agra Fort, the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Dauluh and the Taj Mahal. If you don’t visit en route, an excursion to nearby Fatehpur Sikri, capital of the Mughal Empire in the late 16th century, is also worthwhile. Ask your travel advisor to engage a reliable guide and suggest the best time to avoid the crowds at the Taj Mahal. Built by a 17th-century emperor, the monument exceeds most expectations. It is not until you are up close that you discover that it is exquisitely inlaid with uncountable thousands of semiprecious stones. Note: The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.
