Editor Photos of the Year

View from our Lodge Suite, The Lindis – Andrew Harper editor

Each year, our editors take thousands of photos while traveling around the world (but of course, the incognito nature of their travels means no selfies). After every trip, the design team enjoys going through the images they’ve captured. Because we keep the identities of our writers secret, they don’t receive due credit for their photography. Here, at least, we can highlight some of our favorites from their 2025 journeys.

India

The Taj Mahal in Agra almost always looks impressive in photos. But here, the monument looks especially magical thanks to fog rising from the nearby Yamuna River. The crowds have yet to arrive, and the handful of people who are along its base provide a sense of scale.

A walk around the untouristy Rajasthani town of Chauth Ka Barwara was a favorite excursion during our stay at Six Senses Fort Barwara. The colorful main street has a lively energy without feeling crowded; it was the India I remember from a decade (or two) ago.

An old reservoir abuts the Six Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan, reflecting the hilltop citadel. It draws wildlife like this egret.

We spotted these men selling sweet treats on a side street in Chauth Ka Barwara. They look serious, but we had a very friendly conversation preceding this photo.

Morocco

In Casablanca, we visited the massive Hassan II Mosque — the only one in the country open to non-Muslim visitors. It has an impressive display of classic Moroccan craftsmanship enhanced by dazzling chandeliers, marble fountains and a retractable roof. And though it’s one of the top attractions in the city, we had the place to ourselves.

Italy

Brunello Cucinelli, the “King of Cashmere,” founded his world-renowned label in Solomeo, a 12th-century Umbrian village he painstakingly restored. The views of the revitalized hamlet were especially striking when I saw it from his private winery, with manicured vineyards in the foreground. It was an iconic Italian panorama.

Our last lodge on the South Island, Flockhill, proved a delight, not just for the food and comfort of our villa but because of the on-property activities. I took this image on a high mountain plain while on horseback. Following our guide and her dogs in this pristine countryside proved a highlight of our whole trip.

Montenegro

Just off the beach that overlooks the picturesque islet of Sveti Stefan, we spotted this cat having a snooze. Quite the scenic spot to have a nap!

One of the great joys of traveling along Montenegro’s coast is the impeccably fresh seafood. We encountered this tempting catch of the day at Špilja, a restaurant near The Chedi Luštica Bay.

The sprawling Wednesday farmers’ market in downtown Santa Monica overflows with gorgeous produce, including sculptural mushrooms like these.

At the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, I was captivated by a large black-and-white photograph of the artist at Ghost Ranch, her summer home. It inspired me to visit the place myself and hike to Chimney Rock, the formation she immortalized in her 1938 painting “The Cliff Chimneys.” From the summit, I could gaze across the canyon toward her beloved mountain, Cerro Pedernal.
