It may be tempting to keep one’s time in Cairo brief, considering the city’s chaotic traffic and air pollution. But Egypt’s largest metropolis offers an array of breathtakingly beautiful sites. The Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx are but some of many, including elegant mosques, atmospheric Coptic churches and colorful bazaars. Farther afield, the seldom-visited Bent Pyramid and the Step Pyramid of Zoser at Saqqara are even more ancient than those at Giza.
Just as important, Cairo offers two impressive luxury hotels, the Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza and the newer St. Regis Cairo, which I wholeheartedly recommend. It’s a great pleasure to retreat to one of these properties after a day of sightseeing to relax by the pool or in the spa. Plus, their various fine restaurants make it unnecessary to leave in the evening to find a delicious dinner. Both properties have advantages; this video gives you an idea of their contrasting styles.
