Waterside: Royal Malewane’s New Luxury Lodge

Over the past 22 years, Royal Malewane has been one of the most popular safari lodges in the whole of Africa among Andrew Harper members. This has been due to a combination of opulent accommodations, exceptional cuisine and reliably spectacular game viewing in the private Thornybush Game Reserve, adjacent to South Africa’s Kruger National Park.

The main lodge and the adjacent Farmstead estate have now been augmented by the new Waterside lodge, which is scheduled to debut July 1. Waterside comprises four one-bedroom suites, one two-bedroom suite and one four-bedroom suite (Waterside House). All the accommodations are exceptionally spacious, come with expansive decks and private plunge pools and overlook a tranquil water hole backed by fever trees to which large mammals, including elephants and big cats, are regular visitors. In contrast to the main lodge, which has a thoroughly traditional décor featuring antique furniture, heavy fabrics and oriental carpets, Waterside has been designed by owner Liz Biden in a flamboyant and highly imaginative contemporary style that will be familiar to former guests of The Silo, her superlative modern hotel in Cape Town. Amenities at Waterside include a wine cellar, a library, a fitness center and a yoga and meditation room.
