With that in mind, this periodic column highlights members’ own globe-trotting. For this edition, we interviewed Assana Waylonis about her travels with her husband, Dan, both retired software engineers. They’re determined to visit every national park in the United States. A detail Assana shared right off the bat: She is the planner, Dan the willing participant. On one of their many journeys, Dan had no idea where they were going until the plane started to taxi!

What persuaded you to join Andrew Harper?

In the 2000s, I received an Andrew Harper newsletter. One line grabbed my attention, something like “You don’t need us to tell you that the Ritz-Carlton is a good hotel.” No, I don’t! But do tell me about the little guys! (Though we are really into Four Seasons and Aman hotels.) I loved that it was a subscription model and that it was incognito.
