Beyond Hotel Bookings

Jet boat experience on the
Dart River - Chris McLennan

Our Travel Office is always happy to help with booking flights and hotels — the nuts and bolts of a trip. But our advisors also excel at creating complete itineraries that include seamless transfers, top guides and unforgettable experiences, ensuring that your vacation isn’t just a tour of the most obvious attractions. It might be as simple (and inexpensive) as arranging tickets to the little-known but fascinating Via Triumphalis necropolis at the Vatican or as elaborate as a helicopter transfer to a Nepalese lodge in the Himalayas for a Champagne breakfast with views of five of the world’s highest mountains, including Everest.

I asked our Travel Office to give me some examples of some of the most exciting and exclusive excursions that they can arrange, and I received quite the list! I can’t wait to try some of these experiences out myself.

Guides have given me the majority of my most memorable moments in Mexico, including a private boat to the extraordinary “hidden beach” off the coast of Puerto Vallarta and a Michelin star-quality lunch at a winery outside San Miguel de Allende. I’m overdue for a visit to Mexico City, where I’d love to do an after-hours tour of the popular National Museum of Anthropology. The rooms filled with Aztec and Maya treasures must be so atmospheric when they’re empty of visitors. Or outside Mérida, not far from the highly recommended Chablé Yucatán, our local partner can arrange a special day with the Granada Maya community. See locals’ home altars and vegetable gardens, help make fresh tortillas, and work together to prepare a mucbipollo (like a large tamale), which is cooked in a traditional pit oven.
