It’s always exciting to head off on a trip that you’ve been looking forward to, but leaving your dog behind can make the departure bittersweet. Fortunately, it’s not always necessary to leave a pet at home. Some of the finest hotels in the world extend their hospitality to furry friends as well.
But there is a difference between simply allowing animals and actually welcoming them with customized dog beds and lavish treats. Although plenty of our recommended hotels permit pets, these 10 go above and beyond to make sure our fuzzy family members are treated like honored guests — with exceptional experiences for their owners, as well. Whether your dog is padding across the red rocks of Sedona, curled fireside in Aspen or strolling Madison Avenue, these properties ensure comfortable and happy travels. After all, why should luxury be limited to humans?
While some of our recommended resorts let pets stay for free, others charge cleaning fees, and many have size limits. Please check with your travel advisor before booking.
San Ysidro Ranch
Montecito, California
In the verdant hills above Santa Barbara, San Ysidro Ranch has long been synonymous with discreet romance and old-Hollywood allure. The sophisticated 550-acre cottage-style resort encompasses 38 handsome guest lodgings in peaked-roof cottages, all with stone fireplaces or stoves, private patios (some augmented by rainfall showers) and hot tubs. With the property’s Pampered Pet Program, pups receive a personalized welcome amenity along with plush beds and water bowls. There’s even an in-room dining menu with pet-friendly options. Take your dog exploring on nearby hiking trails and beaches, or stop for a bite to eat at one of the cafés with outdoor seating in Montecito.
The Little Nell
Aspen, Colorado
Situated at the base of Aspen Mountain, this ski-in/ski-out all-season resort has 92 guest lodgings enhanced by stone-clad gas fireplaces. Amenities for humans include a 20,000-bottle wine cellar, a heated courtyard pool and a ski concierge who can arrange lift tickets, rentals and lessons. But furry friends are not ignored at The Little Nell: Dogs are treated to their own epicurean menu — wagyu beef or salmon with brown rice and carrots — while dog beds, sitters, walkers and curated trail maps ensure that every pet is as spoiled as its owner.
Bardessono
Napa Valley, California
Relaxation is the order of the day at this eco-friendly hotel and spa in Napa Valley. Bardessono’s 62 suites and three villas offer gas fireplaces and soaking tubs, and the expansive baths are designed for in-room treatments. The property is also close to the region’s wineries, many of which are also dog-friendly. The hotel provides pet bowls, pet beds and a special welcome amenity at check-in. During “Yappy Hour” at Lucy, the hotel’s restaurant, four-legged guests can choose from the Barkessono menu, featuring dishes like grass-fed beef and carrots.
XV Beacon Hotel
Boston, Massachusetts
This boutique hotel, set in a Beaux Arts building just steps from the dog-friendly Boston Common, combines traditional luxury with dramatic flair. The 61 accommodations feature canopy or poster beds, cozy gas fireplaces and Italian-marble baths. The hotel provides homemade dog biscuits and a personalized dish, a plush bed and “turndown water.” XV Beacon also has a guide to dog-friendly establishments around town. It’s an ideal launch point for exploring cobblestone lanes, galleries and the Freedom Trail.
The Point
Adirondacks, New York
Originally built as a private Rockefeller camp, The Point is an Adirondack legend where rustic grandeur meets sophisticated refinement. The 11 log cabin accommodations feature stone fireplaces, lake views, handcrafted beds and original artwork. Dogs are treated to a plethora of toys and treats throughout their stays, and the hotel provides bowls and beds. But the best part of a getaway at The Point is the range of outdoor activities available. In winter, your pet will love tagging along on snowshoeing adventures, while summer visits are perfect for hiking or boating (the property can even provide life jackets for dogs).
The Peninsula Chicago
Chicago, Illinois
At this sophisticated Chicago property, 339 elegant, high-tech guest accommodations feature a contemporary style, with silk-printed artwork, rich leathers and a well-balanced cream-and-deep-blue palette. Indulge at the elaborate rooftop spa, relax on the outdoor sundeck with skyline views, or enjoy high tea in the opulent lobby. Dogs are indulged, too, at The Peninsula Chicago, with plush beds, an in-room dining menu, dog-walking services and even wellness treatments: Guests can book an in-room doggy massage from the spa. If a health issue arises, pet owners needn’t worry about trying to find help; the hotel has access to 24-hour emergency veterinary care.

Sedona, Arizona
Sensational red-rock formations surround this secluded 70-acre resort. Enchantment’s 218 lodgings come with an appealing Southwest-inspired décor, including log-beamed ceilings, beehive fireplaces and scenic decks with gas grills. Dogs are provided treats, beds and bowls, and you’ll find pooch-friendly hiking trails just steps from the property (“Adventure Advisors” are happy to give recommendations). Back at the hotel, dogs are welcome to dine with their owners on the various restaurants’ outdoor patios, while a workshop at the Artist Cottage will let you take home a souvenir clay mold of your dog’s paw.
Regent Santa Monica Beach
Los Angeles, California
This fashionable 167-room urban resort on Ocean Avenue offers fine views of the sea and Santa Monica Pier. Guests of Regent Santa Monica Beach can lounge on the swimming pool deck, escape to the extravagant Guerlain spa, or organize a day of sunbathing and swimming with the hotel’s beach concierge. Pets, too, get the royal treatment via the Tides & Tails program, which includes designer bowls, plush beds and custom bandannas. While dogs aren’t allowed on the beach, you can still enjoy sandy strolls along the paved beach path and boardwalk, letting your four-legged friend savor the quintessential Southern California lifestyle.

Set amid 20,000 scenic acres between Savannah and Hilton Head Island, this 280-room colonial-style resort has distinctive cottages trimmed by screened porches that overlook a river and lagoon. Walk along the Lowcountry trails with Spanish moss hanging overhead, or take your dog on a jaunt to town. Montage Palmetto Bluff’s concierge has compiled a list of dog-friendly boutiques where you can shop for collars, treats and toys. On property, pets can dine from a special menu featuring Angus beef and mixed vegetables or housemade dog treats. The hotel can also arrange for pet-sitting, dog walking and grooming.
