I have an eight-hour layover in Amsterdam. Is it worth it to leave the airport?

Dining room, De Kas - Rinze Vegelien

Schiphol Airport is one of my favorites in Europe because of its efficiency and proximity to the city. With an eight-hour layover, you have plenty of time to store your bags and take the train in to explore the boutiques and brown cafés of the Jordaan, or make your way to Museumplein to see masterpieces by Van Gogh and Vermeer. If it were me, I’d have the Travel Office arrange a private driver to take me to lunch at De Kas, a pioneering farm-to-table restaurant in a greenhouse within the lush Park Frankendael.

We’re going to Singapore and want to add on a beach vacation. Where should we go?

Sanchaya Suite, The Sanchaya

Indonesia’s Bintan Island is just 45 minutes from Singapore by ferry. There, The Sanchaya is a sumptuous seaside resort with 29 villas and suites overlooking the South China Sea. The resort mixes colonial grandeur with Asian design elements, creating an incredibly atmospheric tropical stay that’s easy to add on to any Southeast Asian adventure.
