An article I recently read surprised me. It cited a study by Talker Research, in which 2,000 American adults were shown three pairs of photographs — in each, one was real and one was AI-generated — of notable travel destinations. Only 5% of the participants correctly identified the AI photo all three times. It’s a concerning statistic, considering that we all seek out pictures before deciding where to go and what hotels to book.

Most members actually do read the Hideaway Report for the articles. But just as we strive for authenticity in our writing, we do our best to present imagery that’s accurate. Because we editors travel incognito, we don’t carry around fancy camera equipment and often rely on pictures by professionals. However, we vet all the photos we publish to ensure that they’re representative of the place.
