We’ve received a few concerning emails in recent months. The letters noted that my team and I are reviewing too many large hotels. “I would prefer you return to your roots and give recommendations of outstanding hideaways that other agencies miss,” one Andrew Harper member wrote.

I like to review hotels of various sizes, because different members have different travel styles. Indeed, even the same person who prefers a bolt-hole in Savannah might prefer a grand palace-style property in Budapest.

But these emails gave me pause. Had we strayed from our mission of illuminating great hideaways? I pulled some numbers to find out.
