Huka Lodge

North Island, New Zealand

Lodge Suite, Huka Lodge

As you know, Huka Lodge is special, with such history and fabulous service catering to your every need, and it’s a super choice for folks looking for a more refined and luxury stay. It is also a great choice if you are only staying at one or two lodges during your trip. — G. B.

Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort

Lanai, Hawaii

Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort

We had problems with our room during our return to Sensei Lanai. We changed rooms after the first night due to noise, as it was located above the property’s driveway. Then later on in our stay, we experienced multiple noises that the hotel described to us as “wind being caught in the pipes.” It was disappointing to have a few sleepless nights in such a relaxing place. However, the hotel manager arranged a lovely private cabana at the beach for us to enjoy for the day and followed up with us several times. — M. P.

Fogo Island Inn

Newfoundland, Canada

Fogo Island Inn

Upon arrival at Fogo Island Inn we were given hand-carved juniper cheese knives “as a token of appreciation from” Andrew Harper — thanks! Mornings here are spectacular! This truly remarkable place is a stunning piece of geography! Fogo Island Inn’s food, service and accommodation are in the same class as Ireland’s Ballyfin Demesne. The hotel was conceived to preserve the culture and sustain the people of an island of small villages shaped by a fading cod-fishing tradition, and it has so far succeeded. What a place for foodies! We just finished a wine-paired chef’s dinner entirely curated to our preferences. One dessert featured locally foraged berries, frozen then shaved into a Champagne cream sauce! The food may even surpass Ballyfin’s Michelin-starred restaurant. — D. W.

Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel

Côte d’Azur, France

Seaside pool, Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel – Christian Horan

Likes: Everything about Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is on point — the beautiful location, swimming pool, facilities, spa and restaurant — exactly what one expects. It’s a bit posh for me, but they do posh very well. Dislikes: The interior is a bit sterile, but substantially [I disliked] nothing. I prefer the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc because one can jump right into the sea. — M. T.

Mayflower Inn & Spa, Auberge Collection

Washington, Connecticut

Mayflower Inn and Spa – SERGE DETALLE

Our stay at Mayflower Inn was exceptional, and the amenities we received as Andrew Harper guests made it even more so, from the complimentary breakfasts to an upgrade to their finest accommodation, which has apparently hosted past U.S. presidents. Thanks again for such a wonderful experience as first-time users of your agency’s services! — A. H. (no relation)

Xara Palace, Relais & Châteaux

Mdina, Malta

Deluxe Suite with Terrace and Jacuzzi, Xara Palace

Xara was charming, though the staff seemed a bit inexperienced. The restaurants were excellent. We didn’t have electrical outlets in our bathroom, which was odd, but the hotel has a great location within the walled city. — A. G. and E. G.

Clos Apalta Residence

Colchagua, Chile

Villa, Clos Apalta Residence – Luciano Bacchi

Clos Apalta is over the top! We stayed here 11 years ago, and it’s even better now. The setting is just beautiful. The villas are like small apartments: sitting room, bedroom, huge walk-in closet and a deck with a plunge pool. Everything you could want. Our villa was up the hill from the main building, so we took a golf cart up and down each time. It almost seemed that they were hovering out of sight waiting for our call, as there was never a long wait. All the staff and management were very friendly and helpful. The food was outstanding! Lunch and dinner were fixed menus, but they happily accommodated substitutions. — R. E.
