Our editor recently returned from an expedition cruise aboard the Seabourn Venture, a 132-suite, Polar Class 6 craft built with luxury in mind. Starting in Lima, Peru, the 12-day adventure culminated in Santiago, Chile, and was part of the ship's inaugural voyage to Antarctica. Highlights included touring the Paracas National Reserve, a desert landscape containing the Paracas Candelabra geoglyph; seeing seabirds, sea lions and penguins in their natural habitats; and viewing the flowering desert island of Isla Damas after a very rare rain event. And while the excursions were highlights, so were the unmatched hospitality of the Seabourn crew and the luxury accommodations aboard the ship (see our review here). There is nothing quite like going out on the open ocean and returning to complimentary caviar and Champagne.
