SMALL COUNTRIES, BIG FINDS

Diminutive Montenegro doesn’t often appear near the top of Americans’ travel wish lists, but it should. We were stunned by the drama of its Adriatic coast, where forested cliffs plunge into the sea and walled Venetian towns and abandoned fortresses keep vigil. Plush resorts (with fine restaurants) now make it possible to explore the country’s riches in comfort. After illuminating stays at two grand hotels in Amsterdam, we enjoyed more scenic splendor on a weeklong Rhine cruise with the Riverside Debussy. And for something completely different, we stopped in Manhattan to check out the newly reopened Waldorf Astoria. This issue also includes examples of feedback that Harper members have sent to us about our Travel Office.
